West Reading presents…

LOVE IS AFOOT!

Sunday 1pm –
Sacred Heart School
701 Franklin St West Reading

Featuring Reading Theater Project

Tickets $10

Join us for a staged reading of our screenplay contest winner, LOVE IS AFOOT!

“A fresh take on a classic style.”

“Imagine if “Singing In The Rain” had been done by John Waters.”

“At its core, LOVE IS AFOOT! Is a love story about two childhood sweethearts and their struggle to be together.”

That’s how the producers of LOVE IS AFOOT describe it.  They told us more, but we’re not about spoiler alerts, so you’ll have to come to the Script Reading and find out the rest of the story!

The hilarious screenplay was written by the comedy team of Perry Sachs (Happy Madison, Jim Henson, SNL), and ubiquitous Michael LaFata.   The original 13 song soundtrack was written and composed by the incredibly talented jazz composer, Kevin Guillaume and Perry Sachs.  The songs were perfected by Tim Davis (Glee, Lady Gaga, Barbara Streisand).  Tony nominated Broadway and film star, Laura Bell Bundy (Hairspray, Legally Blonde) brings her incredible energy, talent and experience to the Love Is Afoot! team.

Michael (LaFata) Lacey is a Reading, PA, native and will be here in-person for the Script Reading, along with other members of the Creative Team. Reading Theater Project will be producing this event along with Santo D. Marabella.

This is a limited capacity, ticketed event.  So, get your tickets early so you can be among the first to understand why LOVE IS AFOOT!

Soy Cubana

ReadingFilmFEST Special Selection

Sunday Oct 3rd 3:00pm
GoggleWorks Boscov Theatre

“In 2017, when the all-female Cuban quartet Vocal Vidas travel to Los Angeles after Grand Performances books them three performances, they get invited to an additional performance at LACMA, on a radio show and to a studio, and bring their lively beautiful music to receptive audiences who cheer and dance. Flashing back to 2015 to their hometown of Santiago de Cuba, the Vocal Vidas sing regularly at the historic El Morro Castle as the culture and economics of Cuba is explored. Set during an explosive time in US politics when the Trump administration formally ends people-to-people visas between Cuba and the United States, Soy Cubana shows the importance of music, supporting other cultures, and having an open travel policy for creatives so they can share their music and culture.

Directors Jeremy Ungar and Ivaylo Getov deliver a fantastically entertaining music documentary that really captures the Vocal Vidas’ beautiful voices, as well as the culture and socio-economic issues of Cuba. Beginning as a documentary short that premiered at Santa Barbara International Film Festival, the short played over fifty festivals winning at least ten awards. Soy Cubana the feature took home the Audience Award at SXSW Film Festival this year and currently holds 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.” – Judd Taylor

The filmmakers will join us following the screening via Zoom for audience Q&A.

Pieces of Us

Pieces of Us

Director: Cheryl Allison
Runtime: 92 minutes

Pieces of Us is an intimate look at the personal journeys of LGBTQ+ hate crime survivors who, by choosing to take their recovery public, inspire the survivor in all of us. The film juxtaposes the inspirational stories of recovery each of the film’s subjects (including transgender activist and Stonewall Riots survivor Victoria Cruz, and Prince Manvendra Singh Gohil of India) have experienced with the powerful connections their public actions have produced. Their stories take us to New York City, Denver and India to witness how intersectionality and speaking your truth can build a support community and even spark global change. The film explores the resistance of these unlikely heroes and survivors, people who didn’t choose to have their rights violated and their lives changed forever, but from those experiences chose to stand against hate and give voice to the voiceless.
