In a bold move to elevate Berks County as a premier film-friendly destination, the Reading Film Office teamed up with the Reading & Berks County Visitors Bureau to attend the 2024 American Film Market (AFM) in Santa Monica, California.
AFM is one of the largest and most influential gatherings in the entertainment industry, attracting producers, location scouts, distributors, and decision-makers from across the globe. This year, our local team was on the ground to share what makes Berks County a unique and untapped gem for filmmakers.
From our diverse architectural backdrops—including historic downtowns, rural farmland, and scenic woodlands—to our welcoming community and accessible permitting process, Berks County offers a wide range of possibilities for filmmakers looking for authenticity, beauty, and logistical ease.
“We’re here to put Berks County on the map,” said representatives from the Reading Film Office. “Whether you’re shooting an indie film, a commercial, or a major motion picture, our region has the resources, locations, and support to bring your vision to life.”
The collaboration with the Visitors Bureau also highlighted the economic and cultural benefits of welcoming film productions to the region. Not only do film shoots bring direct revenue and job opportunities, but they also increase tourism, elevate local talent, and showcase Berks County to a global audience.
As a result of this outreach, the Reading Film Office made several promising connections with industry professionals interested in exploring the area for future projects.
Stay tuned—we’re just getting started.
