Ardent One

An experimental film that reflects on the past, encourages you to live in the present and look into the future with optimism.

Last year, my younger sister, Candelaria, wrote a poem and submitted it to a writing contest. When she won, she was asked to recite it onstage as part of the Wawa Welcome America celebration. The poem itself was about balancing traditional family values with personal ambition, which was something I could resonate with, as both an aspiring filmmaker and a family man. With that in mind, I found a recording of my sister and matched the imagery of the poem with found footage I shot on my own time.
Another source of inspiration was “C’mon, C’mon” which combines narrative elements and experimental segments into its loose plot structure. Using this format, I was able to tell a story through the images and the words of the poem, while also striving for something more artistic.
